The Small Business Service (SBS) is a Government Agency that acts as the voice of small business within Government. The SBS has developed a database made up of small businesses that have agreed to help shape new or proposed Government regulations.
The Small Firms Consultation Database allows SMEs to register their interest in a number of regulatory areas such as Tax, Health & Safety and Employment.
When a Government department is considering regulating in a given policy area, they seek the opinion of businesses on the database to establish what impact a proposed regulation may have on SMEs. This is a chance for small businesses to shape Government policy to make it as small business friendly as possible.
To join the database is easy and free – simply complete the online form at www.sbs.gov.uk/regulations/smedata.php. You can specify what areas of regulation you would be willing to comment on and how you would like to be contacted (either by phone, post, email or face to face). The SBS will only contact you a handful of times each year and you are not obliged to respond to any contacts.
This is your chance to have your say on new government regulatory proposals at the earliest possible stage.
