Most people think of video, as the old VHS cassette format. Digital video is different, instead of the images being recorded onto tape, they are recorded as a sequence of numbers. This information can be stored on digital tape, on a computers hard drive, CDROM or DVD without any loss of quality.
Digital video retains its quality throughout the editing and production process. The cost of software applications, storage space and video cameras has dropped in recent years making the technology more affordable. The recorded footage can be transferred onto a computer and back again to digital tape, simplifying the whole process of producing a video.
